From the airport to Ba Na Hills and Hoi An

Ba Na Hills lies roughly 34 to 40 km from the city centre by road, depending on the route, and the drive takes about 40 to 50 minutes. A taxi from Da Nang city costs roughly VND 350,000 to 420,000 one way, or VND 500,000 to 600,000 return with about 4 hours of waiting. Those are guide figures from the city, not a fixed price from the airport. Cars reach the foot of the mountain and the car park, where parking is free. From there, the cable car takes you up.

The free resort shuttle starts in the city and along the coast, not at the airport. It runs on registration: sign up one day ahead, because places are limited. Hoi An has its own guide for the ride: read how to get from Da Nang to Hoi An.

Vietnam visa and entry rules

The rules in 2026. Check yours before you book.

Visa-free stays

Citizens of several European countries, including Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the UK, can stay up to 45 days without a visa under the rule that has applied since 15 March 2025. Entry and exit day both count, and your passport should be valid for at least 6 months on arrival. Check your own nationality, because this is not a full country list.

The e-visa

The e-visa allows up to 90 days, and travellers of any nationality can apply in principle. Da Nang International Airport is an approved entry point. You apply on the official e-visa portal. The fee is USD 25 for single entry and USD 50 for multiple entry, and processing normally takes 3 working days. Approval is never guaranteed.

Before you fly

Print your approval. Names and passport details in the application must be correct and match your passport.

Rental car and scooter in Da Nang

If you rent a car, a scooter or a motorbike, check your licence first. Foreign visitors need an international permit plus their national licence. A car licence (class B) does not cover scooters or motorbikes over 50 cc, and the B196 licence is not accepted. These are the rules in 2026.

On the mountain roads, notably Son Tra and the Hai Van Pass, the road rules differ by route. Read the guides to the Son Tra Peninsula and the Hai Van Pass before you rent. If you want to avoid the hassle, a taxi, a transfer or a guided tour covers the same ground.
