My Khe Beach at a glance

My Khe Beach is an urban beach on Da Nang's coast, roughly 3 to 5 km from the city centre. Depending on where you start, it is about 5 to 10 minutes by car or taxi. Hotels and apartment blocks line the shore, and the sand stretches along the bay.

It is the easiest place in Da Nang to swim and walk by the sea, and it pairs well with a day at the mountains. If you plan to go up to the Golden Bridge, see our guide to Ba Na Hills tours from Da Nang and Hoi An, because the beach and the hills fit into one trip with an early start.

For most swimmers, the early morning and the late afternoon are the safest and most pleasant times, because cover is stronger and the sun is gentler. The hours are the posted service plan, not a guarantee that every stretch of sand is staffed at all times.

Swimming rules and safety at My Khe Beach

Follow the rules that apply to the beach, and treat the sea with respect. Currents and surf can change quickly, and the lifeguard service does not replace your own judgement.

  • Swim only in areas with active lifeguards, inside the safety buoys or the red and yellow marked zone.
  • Follow warning signs and instructions from the lifeguards.
  • Do not swim during a bad-weather or hazard warning, when swimming is banned or when you see rip currents.
  • When the lifeguard service ends for the day, leave the water.
  • Children should wear a life jacket and stay with an adult. In an emergency, call the nearest lifeguard or the beach hotline 0236 2218 878.

A description of the beach is not a safety clearance. Look at the flags and signs each time, even if the water looked calm yesterday.

Best time for a beach day in Da Nang

What the rain figures suggest.

Average monthly rainfall for Da Nang points to February, March and April as the drier months, with about 22 mm, 36 mm and 50 mm. Highs then sit between 26 and 31ยฐC, which is less hot than the peak of summer, when highs reach about 34 to 35ยฐC from June to August. October is the wettest month on average, with about 658 mm, and September to December all bring heavy totals.

Rainfall figures do not measure surf or currents, so use them as a guide and not as a swimming forecast. Typhoons are a seasonal risk in central Vietnam, mainly from June to November, and heavy monsoon rain with floods is possible from October to December.

From the beach to Ba Na Hills

One coast, one mountain.

The free resort shuttle has stops in the city centre and along the coast, including East Sea Park, a stop opposite My Khe and 99 Vo Nguyen Giap. Departures from the Han River area are at 8:30 and 9:30 a.m., and the bus leaves the resort at 4 p.m. for the return. Places are limited: register one day ahead and arrive about 15 minutes before departure. Read our guide to getting from Da Nang to Ba Na Hills for taxi and shuttle options.

Staying near the sand makes this easy. Our guide to where to stay in Da Nang covers the coast near My Khe, the city centre by the Han River and a night at the mountain resort. If you are also heading south to Hoi An, An Bang Beach is that area's beach.
